Getting hold of Steve
- Is it really just one electrician?
- Yes. Eddowes Electrical is Steve Eddowes — he quotes the job, does the job and answers the phone afterwards. There's no office, no call centre and no rotating subcontractors, which is why every Google review names him personally.
- Why didn't anyone answer when I rang?
- Because he was probably up a ladder. Working hours are Monday to Saturday, 7.30am to 5pm, closed Sunday. Leave a voicemail or a WhatsApp with what's going on and he'll ring back between jobs.
- What's the best way to explain a problem?
- A photo. A picture of your fuse board, the fitting you want changed or the socket that's stopped working saves a lot of guessing — WhatsApp it to 07807 704664 and you'll often get an answer the same day.
- Do you charge for a quote?
- No. Free quotes and advice, in Steve's own words. For anything more than a small job he'd rather come and look at it properly than price a guess.
The work itself
- Is there really no job too small?
- Take it literally — the phrase on Steve's own site is "no job is too small, whether it is a lightbulb change to a full re-wire". A single dead socket, a pull cord, a light fitting that needs taking down before the decorator arrives: all fine. It's worth batching a few small things into one visit if you can.
- Do you work on commercial premises?
- Domestic properties are the speciality — houses, flats, extensions and new builds. If you've got a small commercial job in Buckinghamshire it's worth asking, but homes are what Steve does all day.
- Will you make a mess?
- The reviews are unusually consistent on this one: "extremely tidy, diligent, safe, quick to respond and on time both days". Dust sheets down, chases made good, and the offcuts leave with him.
- Can you work around my builder or plasterer?
- That's most of the new-build and extension work. One reviewer had wall lights rewired at very short notice over a weekend specifically because the plasterer was due on the Monday. Tell Steve the programme and he'll fit round it where he can.
Certification and safety
- Are you NAPIT registered?
- Steve states on his own website that Eddowes Electrical is NAPIT-approved and Part P registered. We haven't printed a scheme number on this page because we'd only print one we'd seen with our own eyes — ask him for his current registration and he'll send it across before you book. Always worth asking any electrician for that, not just this one.
- What is Part P and does my job need notifying?
- Part P of the Building Regulations covers electrical safety in dwellings. New circuits, consumer unit replacements and work in special locations such as bathrooms are notifiable; swapping a like-for-like accessory generally isn't. Steve will tell you which side of the line your job sits on when he quotes.
- Do I get a certificate?
- Yes, for notifiable work — and the board gets labelled up properly at the same time so the next person to open the cupboard isn't guessing.
- Do you do EICRs and landlord certificates?

Money and practicalities
- How do you price?
- Per job rather than per website page — which is why there are no prices on this site. One reviewer describes the pricing as "very competitive and fair", which is about as much as anyone should say on your behalf. Ask for a quote and you'll get a number.
- How long will the power be off?
- For a small job, minutes. For a consumer unit change, most of a working day. Steve will give you the likely window when he quotes so you can plan around the router and the freezer.
- Where do you actually cover?
- Buckinghamshire and the surrounding areas: Wooburn Green, High Wycombe, Beaconsfield, Marlow, Bourne End, Amersham and the villages in between, plus over into the Thames valley when the job warrants it.
- Can you supply the fittings?
- He can, or you can buy your own — plenty of people pick their own pendants and chandeliers. Send a link before the day and Steve can tell you whether it's a straightforward hang or whether it needs a proper fixing above the ceiling.
