Eddowes Electrical is Steve Eddowes, working out of Wooburn Green just outside High Wycombe. He mainly covers Buckinghamshire and the surrounding areas and specialises in domestic properties — houses, flats, extensions and new builds rather than factories and office blocks.

In his own words: seven years' industry experience, NAPIT-approved and Part P registered, and no job too small — whether it's a lightbulb change or a full re-wire. That last bit is worth taking literally. Plenty of electricians won't come out for one dead socket. Steve will, and he'll quote the bigger job honestly while he's there.

A one-man band has an obvious limit: there is exactly one diary, and in the summer it fills up. What you get in exchange is that nothing is lost in translation. The person who looked at the job is the person holding the screwdriver, and the person you ring in a year's time when the outside light packs up already knows how your house is wired.

On certification, honestly

Steve states on his own website that Eddowes Electrical is NAPIT-approved and Part P registered, which means domestic work can be notified and certificated properly. We've not printed a scheme number or a badge wall on this demo, because the only numbers worth printing are ones you've seen with your own eyes. Ask Steve for his current registration and he'll send it over — and you should ask that of any electrician before they touch your consumer unit, not just this one.
